Set up your books

For most Therapist, scheduling happens in a different application than the checkbook.  I build a bridge to connect the two that is HIPAA compliant.

Once the process is set up, you can manage and update it yourself. I'll teach you how.

Tax preparation

We can do everything from creating profit and loss statements, all the way to filing your taxes.

Clients I serve

I work almost exclusively with single-practitioners in private practice who do not take health insurance. But, if you have someone working with the insurance company, I would be able to help enhance your reconciling so that you can see what is outstanding and what has been paid from the insurance company.

FAQ

How much does it cost?
Building a new system for you will run $3,000-$4,000, depending on this size and complexity of your practice. This includes Q&A after the system is set up as you are learning to run it for yourself.

Costs for tax preparation vary too widely for me to give a range without chatting first.

How long does it take?
For most projects, the process takes about 30-40 hours. It will cover at least 4 months because reconciling usually happens once a month, and I need to verify everything is meeting your expectations and working properly over several accounting periods.

In the month after the new process is established, I want to perform the reconciling to ensure everything is working as planned and provide training. The next month, you will do the update, and I watch over your shoulder. The fourth month, you do everything by yourself and let me know if there are any issues.

Then after that, you let me know if you have any issues. After everything is to your liking and working, I provide about an hour a month of support for six months.

How does it work?
I use Excel to build the bridge and put all the information into one system that can be easily updated*. The exact process varies from client to client, depending on your current system. 

*This means that you will need to have Excel, and it is easily available for both Windows and Mac.

What if something changes or it stops working?
I charge a flat rate of $125/hour for one-off questions or updates after the initial 3 month warranty period is over.

About Me

I've got my doctorate in Counseling Psychology, and I used my CPA and accounting degree to pay for it. My focus was on leadership and decision-making. I apply this skillset to large-scale data-driven projects at PG&E where I reconcile and build bridges between large sets of different types of data. I love the work, sometimes the bureaucracy gets a little much.  I'm thinking about downshifting away from PG&E in  the next few years and a home-based business felt right. Build Better Books was born.

For fun, I clown around at various clown schools and perform as a stage clown along with stilt-walking , juggling, and handstands. You might see me lopping around downtown Berkeley, CA.
